Medicine and Surgery Program at the University of Napoli Luigi Vanvitelli
The objective of the single-cycle course in Medicine and Surgery is to impart the scientific foundations, as well as the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for the exercise of the medical profession. The program aims to train a medical professional with a biopsychosocial culture who has a multidisciplinary and integrated vision of the most common health problems and diseases; a degree of professional, decision-making, and operational autonomy that allows the performance of all the functions provided by the organization of health systems; the methodological bases to face the following specialized training, research activities in all areas of the biomedical field and continuous training.
The six-year term comprises a total of 360 credits, of which at least 60 are obtained in training activities aimed at developing specific professional skills. The training of the students extends over two periods of three years; the first focuses on the knowledge of biological aspects and basic sciences, and the second with a predominant clinical and professional orientation, for which professional activities are also developed in the first three years. The course is divided into 12 semesters and 36 integrated courses. The student is required to participate in formal, informal, and hands-on educational activities. The type and procedure of the exam are established in the study regulations of the degree. The course includes clinical practices in hospitals and general practitioners. The student is entitled to 16 credits for the preparation of the diploma thesis and the final exam.
The final exam of the LM41 Medicine and Surgery career has the value of a pubşic exam, which enables the exercise of the profession of surgeon, once the internship of practical evaluation is completed as an integral and enabling part of professional training according to the decree of the Ministry of Education, University and Research.
The course supports international mobility and offers the opportunity to complete study stays and internships abroad in order to enrich the training experience in an international context. The university has entered into numerous mobility agreements with European and non-European universities and institutions and participates in major international mobility programs.
The university recently established the MD / Ph.D. path of excellence for deserving students of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery courses, which provides an excellent training path that combines the didactic activity of the course with research activities in the second through the sixth academic year, with the option of stages in prestigious national or international research institutes to carry out. As part of postgraduate training, obtaining the degree allows access to graduate schools in health, doctorates in the biomedical field, masters and postgraduate degrees.

Tuition Fee
Tuition fees are calculated individually according to the ISEE (Equivalent Economic Status Indicator). ISEE is a criterion used to evaluate the family’s economic status, also used at all public universities in Italy. Therefore, annual tuition fees range from 158 € to 3500 €, depending on many factors (parents’ income, full/part-time studies, etc.).
